The Kingdom of Sweden has pledged USD 255,480 towards aquaculture rehabilitation in districts highly affected by August 2008 floods.
Vientiane, 2 April 2009: Household fish and frog ponds will be the focus of a five-month Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) project to revive and improve the livelihoods for food insecure and flood affected households in Borikhamxay, Khammouane and Vientiane Provinces. A large number of fish ponds were completely de-stocked and damaged in the August 2008 floods, which inundated a total of 75,000 hectares of agricultural land during its peak. Nearly 50,000 hectares out of the total inundated area suffered damages.
