Vientiane, 22 May 2009: In response to the nutrition issue in Lao PDR and in order to support the National Nutrition Policy, the Government of Lao PDR and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have today officially activated two key projects, which will provide a total of over USD1.7million to immediately address hunger and improve the current nutrition situation.  

Dr Bounthavy Sisouphanthong, Vice-Minister (Ministry of Planning and Investment), and Mr. Serge Verniau, Representative, FAO in Lao PDR signed the two new projects: Development of the National Nutrition Strategy and National Plan of Action on Nutrition and Capacity Building for Food Security and Better Nutrition at 2 pm today.   Representatives from Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Ministry of Education, also attended as implementing Ministries of these two projects.
