The international community celebrates World Water Day every year on the 22nd March and the theme for 2010 is “Clean Water for a Healthy World”.

It is a theme that brings attention to water quality and the estimated 1.1 billion people worldwide who rely on unsafe drinking-water sources. It is well acknowledged that Lao PDR has abundant water resources, but in developing these resources it is important that water quality considerations are made alongside those of water quantity.
